BGB's firing with drug smugglers in Cox's Bazar

In Cox's Bazar, there were incidents of firing between BGB and drug smugglers. At this time 5 kg 'ice' or 'crystal meth' was recovered. However, the BGB could not arrest anyone involved in drug trafficking.

The incident took place in the Palangkhali paved bridge area of Palangkhali union in Ukhia Upazila of Cox's Bazar late on Thursday night, BGB told.

The BGB also said that the estimated market value of the recovered ice was around Tk 25 crore.

BGB Cox's Bazar 34 Battalion Commander Lieutenant Colonel Mehdi Hossain Kabir told, "A BGB team recovered the drug from the Paka Bridge area adjacent to Palangkhali Bazar in Palangkhali Union late on Thursday night."

He further said, “A BGB team had already taken a position at the spot on the news of a large consignment of drugs being smuggled from Myanmar. At one point, BGB members saw a group of suspicious people walking towards the Myanmar border and ordered them to stop. The BGB fired back in self-defense when the drug dealers fired. At that moment, the drug traffickers dropped a bag and fled to Myanmar through the surrounding jungle. The bag was later searched and 5 kg of 'ice' or 'crystal meth' was recovered.

The market value of the recovered drugs is estimated at Tk 25 crore. The drugs have been kept at the BGB battalion headquarters and a case has been filed with Ukhia police station in this regard, he said.
